I’ve had an LTE device for the last 6 months, and believe me, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. It’s still more dependant on reception quality than anything else, and say goodbye to battery life. It annihilates Li-Ion batteries like a steam roller takes out small kittens. The Nexus 4 has bigger issues anyway – specifically its performance and battery life. The Nexus 10 has a slower GPU than the iPhone 5 – it’s way underpowered and not anywhere near as good an option as the iPad 4.
I’m torn on the accessories front. I want to be able to chuck my phone around a little, but with that glass back it seems I’ll be having to set it down carefully on any hard surface. I never liked the Belkin Grip iphone 5 case, and while bumpers might seem cool, won’t they impact edge gestures, especially with the minimal side bezel of the device? Also, how much will I be willing to pay for a wireless charging stand? In the end, it isn’t a deal breaker. Is the convenience worth $60? $80?
Unfortunately all the reviews are made like this. Not only for things like LTE. Consider NFC (Or lack of) in many countries (Venezuela included) it will be years before we can use it to pay or something like that, but their score takes that in account. If you take maps in consideration, Google maps and related services are awesome in the US and other “first world” countries but I Venezuela and other countries it’s not that useful (In Valencia I find it really lacking for example). So the Verge would say it’s the best mapping solution…for them and go and criticize Nokia Maps because it’s not as good in the US, but It’s actually better than Google maps in many other countries like Venezuela.
I personally think it’s even more troublesome when you think about the “ecosystem” score. Ecosystem is more than just apps, it’s also about the services that you can consume on the phone, it’s the availability of services (music, movies, others), payment in local currency, etc. For someone in the US Google’s ecosystem is near perfect, outside, not so much. WP is knocked because it didn’t have many apps that were associated with certain service like pandora or whatever, for somebody in many countries this is not an issue because we can’t even use the services that is regionally locked.
